Sex addiction is defined as any sexually related, compulsive behavior that interferes with normal living. It causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and/or one’s work environment.

Sex addiction has been called sexual dependency and sexual compulsivity. By any name, it is a compulsive behavior that dominates the addict’s life. Sex addicts make sex or acting out sexually a priority more important than family, friends, and work.

Individuals and couples in need of specialized care are often referred to New Leaf Center by the faith-based community, medical doctors, psychiatrists, and attorneys. Current and past clients also refer people. New Leaf Center’s staff has worked closely with the Central Florida professional community since its inception in 1990, including providing educational training and programs.

Most members of the therapy staff are Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSAT). They have years of experience working with the sex addict and his or her spouse/partner. CSAT is a designation given to licensed therapists who have completed an intense certification training program. It is offered through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).

New Leaf Center’s sex addiction outpatient treatment program includes individual and group therapy as well as couples and family counseling. Our clinicians follow the 30-task model of treatment researched and created by renowned speaker and author Dr. Patrick Carnes.

Those who suspect they may be struggling with sex addiction can access a variety of online assessments to find out whether sex addiction is impacting their lives. If so, New Leaf Center therapists can complete a thorough evaluation and create a treatment plan to address specific therapeutic needs.
