Until his death in September 2019, Dan Crockett was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified Addictions Professional. He provided outpatient individual and group therapy beginning in 1984, and he was a Senior Counselor at New Leaf Center since he founded the agency in 1990. He served as its Executive Director until he sold the practice in February 2015.
His areas of specialty included addiction, drug/alcohol abuse and dependency, sexual addiction, codependency, trauma and abuse recovery, men’s issues, and other mental health and addiction-related issues. He provided assessment and outpatient treatment for professionals as well as recommendations and referral services. He also worked with attorneys to provide therapeutic guidance for legally involved clients.
Dan received specialized training under nationally and internationally known specialists in the fields of addiction, chemical dependency, sex addiction, brain activity, codependency, sexual abuse, and treatment of abuse survivors and offenders. Some of these specialists included Patrick Carnes, Anna Salter, Pat Ogden, Claudia Black, Robert Hare, John Bradshaw, Janet Wotitz, Damian McElrath, and Colin Roth. He also was a frequent speaker and presented workshops on various therapeutic and recovery topics.
Dan was a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association (FMHCA), the Mental Health Counselors of Central Florida (MHCCF), the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), and the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH).
