Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Group
If you struggle with regulating emotions such as anger, sadness, anxiety, or frustration, and your existing coping skills are not as effective as you would like them to be, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) can offer an effective solution. Trauma, abuse, neglect or genetics can contribute to emotional vulnerability. Difficult-to-manage emotional reactions lead to suffering and strained relationships, and they can block individuals from reaching their full potential. If your coping mechanisms are not providing the results you need in your life, DBT may be a helpful option.
DBT was developed in the early 1990s by Marsha Linehan to help clients increase their abilities in four areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness. This ground-breaking therapy can help alleviate depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction issues, trauma and other areas in which an individual may feel stuck. DBT has been very effective in helping to improve the quality of life for many people who have applied its skills in their daily lives.
If you need help managing your feelings, tolerating stress, staying mindful and/or improving your relationships, this group can help. Potential group members who are not presently clients of New Leaf Center, please schedule a one-hour screening appointment with the group facilitator. In order to effectively implement the DBT skill-set and create safety in the group environment, participants are required to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks in the group.
